Host a Spartan
Billeting is an integral part of the USPHL hockey program. Each year, the Red River Spartans players come from the United States, Canada, and Europe. Our athletes range in age from 16 to 21. Becoming a billet allows these young men to pursue their goals of playing junior hockey and advance to college.
What does a billet family do?
Billets not only provide a place to sleep, but they also become a family to these young men. Many of these young men have lived away from home, but for some, it is their first time. Billets also provide daily meals.
These players require trust, encouragement, and a family atmosphere from their billets.
What is the time commitment?
We are seeking billets for Spring/Summer camps as well as in-season from mid-August to early April.
Most weekends, players are away at games or practices. During the week, players are expected to be at workouts, practices, and team events.
What does a billet need to provide?
- A bedroom and bathroom that includes furniture such as a bed and clothing storage.
- Access to a kitchen and nutritious meals such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- A patient, caring home away from home.
What are the responsibilities of the players?
- Our athletes are expected to be respectful and kind to not only to billets but their homes.
- Living with a billet family is a privilege, not a right; therefore, they are expected to adhere to the rules of billet homes.
Is there compensation for billets?
Yes, billets will receive a monthly billeting fee and free game tickets.

A Word From Our Billets
I can honestly say it has been an incredible experience. Our son benefited immensely as well, spending time shooting pucks with Hunter and learning from him every day. It made him a better player, but more importantly, it gave him someone to look up to. Over the past months, we’ve hosted teammates for dinners, watched games together, and built relationships that go far beyond hockey. We have also become close to his natural parents as well and extended family who all came to visit. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to make a difference, open your home and your heart to a young athlete chasing a dream. We did, and we wouldn’t change a thing.

We had such a great experience being a billet family for the Spartans. Hosting a player in our home was incredibly rewarding. He was respectful, responsible, and truly became part of our family. He was amazing with our kids and built a special bond with our older son, who also plays hockey, taking the time to mentor and encourage him both on and off the ice. We’re so grateful for the experience and the positive impact it had on our family.

We really enjoyed our experience billeting a Spartans player, Goalie #79 Dominic Filizetti. It was our first season billeting this last season and it was fun to be a part of the Spartan’s family. We went to all his home games and watched some online when they were away. We have two kids and they also adored having a “big brother” in the house even when he took a “candy tax” at Halloween. Our billet player became one of our family members and his family became our family. We also really enjoyed it when his parents came to town to watch him play, and we would get the chance to show them our favorite parts of Clarksville. We plan to go visit him and follow his hockey career however far that takes him! We hope he goes pro so we can cheer for him and know that in some very small way we helped him get there. Our family had a very positive experience and we are looking forward to next season.
